Ballymore Racing, located in Matamata,  seeks an experienced full time member of staff / Foreman as we build towards another big season ahead.

Pam Gerard and her team put a particular emphasis on high standards of work and ultimately let the horses do the talking on the track.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Daily Horse Care: Provide high-quality care to racehorses, ensuring their overall well-being, fitness, and grooming.
  • Stable Maintenance: Assist with the upkeep of stable cleanliness, feeding routines, and ensuring all horses are safely stabled.
  • Assisting Trainers: Work alongside our senior members to prepare horses for training and race days, including tacking up, cooling down, and assisting with any special requirements.
  • Monitoring Health: Be vigilant for any signs of illness or injury, and report any concerns to the veterinary team.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of horses’ health, training, feeding, and performance.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with other staff to ensure a smooth, efficient operation across the stable.
  • Attending Races: Experience handling and preparing horses to a high standard at the races and liaising with owners.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience working in a racehorse stable or similar environment.
  • Solid understanding of horse care, health, and training techniques.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and sometimes demanding environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A genuine passion for the equine industry and racehorses.
  • A positive, proactive attitude with a strong work ethic.
  • Basic understanding of horse behavior and care needs.
  • Ability to handle horses calmly and safely.
