Steps to becoming a Track Manager

  • NZ Certificate in Sports Turf Levels 3 & 4 
  • Management Qualifications
  • Approved Handlers Certificate for Dangerous Materials

  • Expert knowledge of turf science, agronomy, and track construction.
  • Strong understanding of racehorse movement, surface impact, and safety.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure — especially during race days or poor weather.
  • Skilled in machinery operation, irrigation management, and budgeting.
  • Effective communication with trainers, racing officials, and maintenance teams.
