Growing up in Mauritius, a future in racing was never on the cards for Abhay Seesa, until a cousin suggested at the age of 15 that his small stature could make him the perfect fit for a career in the saddle.
Starting out as a stablehand before progressing to riding trackwork, Abhay had his sights firmly set on becoming a jockey. Seeking greater opportunities to pursue his dream, he made the decision to move to New Zealand, joining the Cambridge stable of Ralph Manning. He went on to make an impressive start to his raceday career, winning on debut in the Amateur Rider Series before recording three further victories on his way to claiming the 2025 series title.
Now taking the next step towards fulfilling his dream, Abhay has commenced his apprenticeship through Equine Academy New Zealand and is based at Byerley Park with trainers Danny Walker and Arron Tata. With a successful introduction to raceday riding already under his belt, we're excited to see where Abhay's journey takes him as he continues to develop his skills through the Elite Jockey Programme!
