Abinith Simon

Meet Abinith Simon

Hailing from Bangalore, India, Abinith Simon’s passion for horses began during school holidays spent with his uncle, who was a racehorse trainer. Initially knowing little about horses, Abinith began helping around the stable before learning to ride, and it wasn’t long before he set his sights on becoming a jockey.

Looking to further his career, Abinith made the move to New Zealand in December 2022, initially working for Te Aroha trainer Peter Lock before joining the Cambridge stable of Roger James and Robert Wellwood, where he was given the opportunity to pursue his apprenticeship. While completing the required trial rides for his apprentice licence, Abinith gained valuable raceday experience competing in the amateur riding ranks before gaining his spot in the Elite Jockey Programme.
