Are you passionate about racing and ready to play a key role in upholding integrity in the sport?

The Racing Integrity Board (RIB) is seeking expressions of interest for Adjudicators to join our Adjudicative Committees.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong interest in Thoroughbred or Harness racing, combined with experience in legal, compliance, regulatory or investigative environments, who is looking to contribute to fair and transparent decision-making within the industry.

About the role

Adjudicative Committees play a critical role in New Zealand racing. As an Adjudicator, you will be responsible for:

  • hearing and determining matters brought before the Committee under the Rules of Racing 
  • applying the Rules of Racing, Penalty Guidelines and relevant directives to reach fair and reasoned decisions 
  • exercising powers to impose penalties and award costs where appropriate 
  • assessing evidence, submissions and facts objectively and impartially 

This role requires the ability to quickly understand complex information, identify the key facts of a matter, and apply sound judgement in a structured decision-making environment.

What we’re looking for

We are seeking individuals who bring:

  • a genuine passion for racing — ideally an avid follower of Thoroughbred and/or Harness racing 
  • experience in legal practice (preferred), or in compliance, investigations, regulatory or decision-making roles 
  • strong analytical skills and the ability to assimilate information and identify the key facts of a matter 
  • sound judgement and the ability to make fair, impartial decisions 
  • excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to produce clear, well reasoned written determinations
  • high levels of integrity, professionalism and discretion 

An understanding of the Rules of Racing is advantageous, or a willingness to develop strong working knowledge quickly.

Hours and commitment
This is a part-time, rostered role aligned with the racing calendar.

  • Typically 3–4 race meetings per month (depending on availability and the racing schedule) 
  • Each meeting is approximately 8 hours in duration 
  • Additional preparation or follow-up work may be required as part of decision-making processes
