New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing (NZTR) is the regulatory and governing authority for the sport of Thoroughbred racing in New Zealand. We are tasked with ensuring the overall health and successful development of the sport across New Zealand, seeking to enhance its attraction to customers and its position in the sporting and cultural landscape of the country. Racing contributes $1.6 billion (0.9% of GDP) to the New Zealand economy and directly employs approximately 10,000 people.

The Racing Industry Act 2020 assigns ultimate responsibility for all aspects of Thoroughbred racing to NZTR. We are therefore undergoing a period of change as the new industry arrangements are embedded and NTZR’s function and role expands across the industry.  This includes the promotion of industry careers and facilitation of vocational training.

About the Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for an Education Coordinator in Christchurch. This position offers 40 hours per week on a 7-month fixed term basis, serving as parental cover. The main purpose of this role is to provide a front-line NZTR regional (South Island) presence to support training uptake and qualification completions regarding licencing regulations and industry training.

As part of this role, you will develop and deliver theory and practical training sessions for industry trainees, plan group or one-on-one study sessions to support completion of qualifications and engage employers to increase engagement in training enrolment. You will provide regular mentoring and learning support for all industry participants and undertake regular compliance conversations with license holders. You will work closely with all trainees during sign up and provide frontline NZTR presence to improve communications and trouble shooting.  You will also have a support presence at careers and promotional events to encourage and educate the public in industry training opportunities.

This is a great opportunity to build meaningful relationships within the industry and to drive engagement among industry participants regarding education and training in thoroughbred racing.
