You will experience the equine industry at its best, whether it is being inspired and guided by our specialist guest speakers; observing vets, farriers and other professionals at work; visiting some of New Zealand’s finest stud farms, racing stables, feed companies or museums; soaking in the atmosphere at New Zealand Bloodstock’s state-of-the-art sale grounds; or spending a day at the races alongside the float driver, starter, camera crew, stewards, owners and jockeys... the possibilities are endless - there is an occupation for anyone and everyone in this industry!

19 week programme (includes a two-week holiday) - time of year/dates?
Monday to Friday, six hours per day
Mix of face-to-face learning in a classroom environment and practical experience in the field
Contribute as part of a team in an equine workplace.
Care for and handle horses safely in and around an equine facility.
Carry out tasks to create and maintain a clean and safe working environment in all areas of an equine facility.
Must have an interest in the industry
Be physically fit
Aged 16 years or older
An interview is essential
Following successful completion of the New Zealand Certificate in Equine Skills (Level 2), graduates can be employed as stable hands, track rider or stud assistants in a sector of the equine industry.
New Zealand Certificate in Equine Skills (Breeding, Riding or Stablehand) Level 3.
Or, if you have a passion to be New Zealand’s next champion jockey, learn to ride with us, graduate with the New Zealand Certificate in Equine Skills (Level 2) and sign up for the first intake to the Apprentice Jockey Academy in April 2022!
