Jack Taplin

Meet Jack Taplin

Born into a family steeped in racing, Jack Taplin grew up surrounded by thoroughbreds as the son of trainers Kerry and Ian Taplin. After moving across the Tasman to help his family establish their racing stable in Queensland, Jack spent his time riding trackwork and working around the stable, while also gaining valuable experience with the Sheila Laxon and John Symons stable.

Despite initially having no plans to become a jockey, Jack eventually decided to pursue a career in the saddle and returned to New Zealand, joining Cambridge trainer Stephen Marsh to begin his apprenticeship. With black-type success to his name after claiming the Gr.3 Barneswood Farm Stakes at Ashburton, Jack continues to develop his craft while establishing himself among New Zealand’s emerging apprentice jockey ranks.
