New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing (NZTR) is the regulatory and governing authority for the sport of Thoroughbred racing in New Zealand. We are on a mission to create a sustainable and successful Thoroughbred Racing Industry for Kiwis to enjoy for many generations to come!

Racing is a significant contributor to the New Zealand economy, accounting for a remarkable $1.9 billion in value-added GDP and directly employs more than 13,000 individuals.

At NZTR, we oversee and regulate all aspects of Thoroughbred racing, from licensing and registrations to setting the races, race promotion, and ensuring the wellbeing of our people and horses. Following the recent appointment of CEO Matt Ballesty, NZTR is undergoing a period of bold and transformational change. 

Together, we are driving the initiatives that will see racing thrive for many years by attracting new talent and engaging a new demographic of punters, owners, and racing enthusiasts.

 

As our People & Performance Office Coordinator, you’ll play a vital role in supporting our people-focused initiatives and ensuring the smooth running of our office operations. Reporting to the Head of People & Performance, you’ll be the go-to person for recruitment coordination, onboarding, staff engagement, wellbeing initiatives, and event planning.

This is a varied and hands-on role where no two days are the same. You’ll be instrumental in fostering a positive workplace culture and helping us deliver on our people strategy.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate recruitment and onboarding processes
  • Support internal communications and staff wellbeing initiatives
  • Manage office operations, supplies, and vendor relationships
  • Organise staff events, training sessions, and team-building activities
  • Lead monthly Health & Safety meetings and maintain compliance registers
  • Provide general administrative support across the business

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Previous experience in HR coordination or a similar role
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management abilities
  • A proactive, can-do attitude and a passion for people
  • Knowledge of NZ employment legislation (preferred)
  • Experience or interest in the racing industry (a bonus!)
