Racing is a significant contributor to the New Zealand economy, accounting for a remarkable $1.9 billion in value-added GDP and directly employs more than 13,000 individuals.

At NZTR, we oversee and regulate all aspects of thoroughbred racing, from licensing and registrations to setting the race calendar, race promotion, and ensuring the wellbeing of our people and horses. Following the recent appointment of CEO Matt Ballesty, NZTR is undergoing a period of bold and transformational change. 

Together, we are driving the initiatives that will see racing thrive for many years by attracting new talent and engaging a new demographic of punters, owners, and racing enthusiasts.

As a Project Coordinator, you’ll play a vital role in supporting our GM Racing and GM Brand Experience, Comms & Industry Promotion in all aspects of project delivery including operational business and stakeholder affairs.

This is a varied and hands-on role where no two days are the same. You’ll be instrumental in fostering a positive workplace culture and helping us deliver on our strategy. This role will drive project success and ensure seamless coordination.

Key Responsibilities

Coordinate and monitor projects with GM Racing and GM Brand Experience, ensuring alignment with organisational goals, timelines, and budgets.

Facilitate communication and meetings by scheduling, preparing agendas, documenting outcomes, and supporting workshops, conferences, and working sessions.

Prepare and manage project materials such as reports, presentations, and documentation for senior management and board meetings.

Conduct research and gather data to inform project planning, decision-making, and board reporting requirements.

Identify and mitigate project risks, proactively addressing issues with GMs and stakeholders to keep projects on track.

Provide administrative and cross-departmental support, including coordinating information for board presentations and assisting with BAU projects.

Contribute to continuous improvement by raising issues, generating ideas, and supporting system development and review.

Follow all health and safety requirements, including PPE use, hazard reporting, and attending relevant training to maintain a safe workplace.

What You'll bring

  • 3+ years experience in a similar role or relevant experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to drive projects from ideation stage through to successful outcomes with autonomous capability
  • Capable of prioritising workloads, timelines and deliverables for both yourself and others
  • Understanding of marketing functionality and processes
  • Any marketing agency or Racing Industry would be seen as a bonus
  • Demonstrate ability to build a network of working relationships within an industry
