Meet Sam McNab

Following in his family’s footsteps, Sam McNab comes from a strong racing background on both sides of his family. His father Chris is a former top jockey and trainer, while his brother Michael has established himself as one of New Zealand’s leading riders, giving Sam no shortage of experience to draw on as he pursues his own career in the saddle.

A rising star, Sam already has black-type successes to his name including the Gr.2 Ultimate Mazda Japan Trophy on Omega Boy for Peter and Trent Didham, as well as the Gr.2 Gartshore Construction Tauranga Stakes aboard Agera for mentor Tony Pike. Sam was recently awarded the Bill Simon Trophy for the Most Outstanding Ride by an Apprentice for his rail-hugging ride on Maldini in the Premier Dunstan Horsefeeds Stayers Championship Final at Ellerslie on Boxing Day, chosen by commentator George Simon.
